From GLASGOW CITY COUNCIL:
Campaign Launch Invitation: Stop Demand - End Prostitution Now:
8th December, 10am, Recital Room, City Halls, Candleriggs, G1 1NQ. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the harm caused through prostitution. The campaign puts the focus firmly on the buyers of sex, who create the demand, and who have been invisible for too long. GCC believes that it is the demand which fuels the sex industry in Glasgow and, only by targeting this demand and challenging attitudes towards buying sex, will we be able to reduce the supply of vulnerable women, and sometimes young men, who are being exploited through this abusive trade. Please join us at the launch and add your voice to the call for the Scottish Parliament to give the powers needed to challenge demand, change public perception and, ultimately, to put an end to prostitution. Please respond to this invitation by emailing suzanne.mcshane@glasgow.gov.uk or by calling 0141 276 7716.

Scottish Government: Race Equality Conference:
Tuesday, 15 December, Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre, Beardmore St, Clydebank G81. The Scottish Government is committed to working in partnership with stakeholders and communities to tackle racism and achieve race equality in Scotland. We want Scotland to be a country where people can live, work and bring up their families without fear of discrimination. This conference aims to discuss and debate with delegates where we are and where we need to be on delivering race equality nationally and locally. We will also examine the theme of identity, with a particular focus on our National Outcome 13 “We take part in a strong, fair and inclusive identity.” We recognise that there are still many challenges to overcome before we achieve our shared goal of a Scotland free of discrimination. This conference is an opportunity for minority ethnic communities to explore and debate on how those challenges can be best addressed in the future. Learning from this event will inform a second Race Equality Conference Event, which is due to take place in March and will focus on local and national public and voluntary sector stakeholders delivering on equality. Who should attend: Minority ethnic community organisations; National and local voluntary sector organisations working with minority ethnic communities. Due to limited capacity at the event and to ensure that a cross section of minority ethnic organisations and individuals have the opportunity to attend - there will be a limit of one delegate from each organisation. Please therefore can you nominate only ONE person from your organisation. We anticipate a high level of interest in this conference please make sure you reserve a place early!
