From GLASGOW COMMUNITY AND SAFETY SERVICES:

Update On The End Prostitution Now Campaign:
Glasgow City Council launched End Prostitution Now in December 2009, a campaign aimed at ending prostitution by putting the spotlight on the buyers of sex, who create the demand, and who have in the past been invisible from public debate.  In the coming weeks an amendment will be presented during the Stage 2 of the Criminal Justice and Licensing Bill to call for anyone involved in the purchase, marketing or facilitation of sexual services to be criminalised.

As well as raising awareness of the intrinsic harm of prostitution, Glasgow City Council believes that it is demand which fuels the sex industry in Scotland and only by targeting this demand and challenging attitudes towards buying sex will be able to reduce the supply of vulnerable women, and sometimes young men, who are being exploited through this abusive trade.  Hundreds have signed up to support the campaign so far.  To find out more about the campaign and show your commitment by writing to your MSP log onto the website at www.endprostitutionnow.org.

From VARIANT:

What Is Going To Happen To Equalities In Creative Scotland?:

“Nobody can tell us. The SAC Equalities Department and the posts of Arts and Health and Arts and Disability Officers are due to be dissolved in the move to Creative Scotland.  What’s more, there is no mention of Equalities in the Creative Scotland Business Plan.  Now is the time for us to raise our concerns, so that Equalities can become a priority.  We have drafted a letter which outlines our concerns and requests information, consultation, clarification on policy and strategy, and an impact assessment.  Furthermore, we have requested that the SAC/CS hold a dedicated public meeting (before March) which will answer these questions and any other questions about Equalities in Creative Scotland” Read on at http://enf.org.uk/blog/?p=1060
