FREELANCE PARTICIPATORY RESEARCHER

Engender has a new raft of work starting that will require the knowledge, skills and attitude of an enthusiastic and energetic freelance worker with a passion for participation and equality.

Our ideal candidate would be:

  • able to demonstrate their experience in a variety of participatory research approaches
  • able to design robust participatory methodologies
  • able to demonstrate their skills in developing participatory analysis processes and generating appropriate outputs

They would also:

  • have a strong feminist analysis and be committed to feminist principles
  • be able to work as part of a team and to think on their feet and take initiative
  • be creative, flexible and quick thinking,
  • be a people person
  • have developed and be able to articulate their own reflective practice

From March for the next 2 years we will be needing around 85 to 100 days of their time.

This INTERREG IVA Programme project is a collaborative and innovative regional partnership project between three key women’s organizations from Scotland, Derry/Londonderry and Donegal with the support of Donegal County Council. The partnership aims to address the continuing underrepresentation of women in decision-making fora and the development of policies to address this issue.

The project includes a range of interventions at local, national and across borders, including training, advocacy, strengthening of civic networks and support for women taking leadership roles. The project proposes to work in collaboration with public sector organizations to enhance the role and participation of women in decision making and to positively impact on public service delivery.

  • Posts will be based at Lifford, Co. Donegal with an outreach base at Derry/Londonderry
  • Timeframe: Specific purpose contracts will be offered to the successful candidates on the basis that it is anticipated that contracts will run to December, 2012.

Oxfam is delivering a new research project to document the impact of the economic recession on poverty in Bradford, and identify the key changes that would make local communities more resilient in the future.

You’ll manage this important research project, driving its strategic direction, overseeing its budget and supporting a team of community researchers, to play a lead role in the research. You will bring qualitative research expertise to the project, and take the lead in interviewing key local stakeholders as well as analysing and writing up the research. We’re also looking for someone with project management experience, including team leadership and research design as well as excellent influencing, interpersonal and presentation skills. EDINBURGH WOMEN’S RAPE AND SEXUAL ABUSE CENTRE

Established in 1978, Edinburgh Women’s Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (EWRASAC), previously known as Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre, provides a unique support service for women, girls and transgender people who have experienced any form of sexual violence at any times in their lives (including rape, sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse and ritual abuse) and for their supporters.

We are looking for two exceptional workers to join our paid staff team.

TRAINING DEVELOPMENT WORKER (35 hours per week)

£24,636 per annum (AP4 Pt 29)

We are looking for a dynamic and suitably experienced individual with a minimum of two years’ experience of training delivery and development and a minimum of three years’ experience of supporting vulnerable service users.  Duties and responsibilities will include:

- development, delivery and evaluation of EWRASAC’s training programmes for external agencies and internal annual training programme

- recruitment, training and assessment of new volunteers

- direct support work.

The post-holder will receive regular support and supervision and will have access to internal and external training opportunities.

This post is funded by the Big Lottery Fund to 31 August 2012.

YOUNG WOMEN’S WORKER (13 hours per week)

£8,186 per annum (AP3 Pt26)

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a minimum of two years’ experience of supporting young vulnerable service users and one year’s experience of supporting survivors of sexual violence.  Duties and responsibilities will include the delivery of face-to-face, group and email support for female and transgender survivors of sexual violence aged 12 to 18, and the development of the young women’s service. The post-holder will receive regular support and supervision and will have access to internal and external training opportunities.

This post is funded by the Fairer Scotland Fund- Early Intervention Innovations Fund until March 2011.

We are looking for someone with a proven track record in outreach and development work, especially with disabled people.  The candidate needs to be committed, enthusiastic, self-motivated and someone who can use their own initiative. It is important the candidate has a clear understanding of social inclusion issues and is committed to the Social Model of Disability.

The main purpose of the Outreach and Development Officer’s post will be to produce a development handbook.  The handbook will assist groups of disabled people to deal more effectively with policy and decision makers.  In addition, the post holder will ensure the development and capacity building of groups of disabled people so they are empowered to be comfortable in expressing their views on issues important to them.

ROMA EDUCATION FUND (REF)

The Roma Education Fund is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Programme Officer at its head office in Budapest.

PROGRAMME OFFICER

Job description

The Programme Officer will be responsible for developing and managing a country programme in selected countries where REF is active. The Programme Officer will participate in the strategic thinking on REF activity and directions, in particular on building large scale, sustainable activities for inclusion of Roma in education in line with REF’s 2010-2015 Strategy. The Programme Officer will be part of the REF Project Management Committee, therefore participating in all decisions related to REF project management and which are the responsibilities of the Committee. More particularly the Programme Officer will:

* Have specific responsibilities for the management of country programmes for one or more countries. This activity will involve (a) the review and assessment of grant proposals, establishing appropriate indicators to monitor project progress, supervising the grants throughout the project cycle, building the capacity of the implementing organisations to achieve the project objectives more effectively and ensuring appropriate evaluation of the project when it is finished; (b) the review and assessment of applications for the REF revolving fund and endeavouring to ensure that reimbursable grants are repaid; and (c) leading the policy dialogue with governments and NGO sector so as to develop large-scale interventions for Roma education. The Programme Officer supervises the REF country facilitators who are locally-based consultants and who are the main point of contact for project applicants and implementers.

* Work closely with other programme officers and country facilitators so that the lessons of experience across REF projects in different countries are shared within REF and with project partners and other external stakeholders.

* Liaise closely with the other REF programmes so as to promote synergies between different REF activities

* Participate in REF communication activities, by attending conferences and seminars, prepare and present papers and contribute to the policy dialogue with partners

* Take part in monitoring visits to other countries and provide advice on the overall grant programme of REF

* Assure REF visibility in Roma education-related events, especially in the country/countries for which the Programme Officer is responsible

Expected qualifications

* Bachelor level degree in relevant subject such as education, political science, social science, economics, law or public administration

* At least five years’ demonstrated success in managing education or Roma related projects. Experience in managing a non-governmental organization or in working for a government ministry will be an advantage.

* Knowledge of issues related to education of minorities in Central and Eastern Europe. Knowledge of Roma issues will be an advantage.

* Fluent written and spoken English. Working knowledge of Romanes will be an advantage as will working knowledge of languages spoken in countries of Central and Eastern Europe in which REF is active.

* Ability to work in a multi-cultural team in various contexts.

* Commitment to and passion for the REF mission

TRAINEE YOUTH PARTICIPATION WORKER

You will assist with the development and delivery of a range of participation opportunities for LGBT young people from across Scotland. Working alongside the National Participation Co-ordinator, you will get the opportunity to develop your youth work skills, as well as being actively involved in the work of the Policy & Mainstreaming Team.

A key focus of the post is to work closely with the members of the LGBT National Youth Council to plan and deliver regular residentials across Scotland. You will be responsible for developing young people’s confidence and skills around areas such as campaigning and representation. This post requires considerable travel as well as evening and weekend work.
