SPORT RELIEF COMMUNITY CASH GRANTS - LAST CALL FOR APPLICATIONS! DEADLINE EXTENDED TO THE 12TH MARCH

The Scottish Community Foundation is still keen to receive more applications from small groups in Glasgow to this one-off grants scheme offering awards of £500 to £1,000 to support a wide variety of costs and activities.

A total of £62,500 is available to groups with an income under £50K/yr. The kinds of activities which might receive funding include parent and toddler groups, community festivals, cross generational work, befriending for older, isolated people, lunch clubs etc. This is not an exhaustive list and any group helping to strengthen their community or working with people living tough lives is encouraged to apply.

The deadline has been extended until tomorrow, Friday 12th March.

Grants will be announced in mid-April.

FUNDING TO INCREASE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY LEVELS AMONG GIRLS AND YOUNG WOMEN (SCOTLAND)

Youth Scotland has announced that Grants of up to £2,000 are available for projects and initiatives across Scotland that increase physical activity levels among girls and young women. The funding is available to groups working with girls and young women aged 12 - 18 years who are not currently taking part in physical activity. Applications are particularly welcome from young women who; live in disadvantaged communities; have experienced homelessness or are living in care; have disabilities or mental health issues; are from black and ethnic minority communities; and are mothers of young children. Previous projects have included cheerleading, netball, walking, dance, gymnastics, outdoor activities and many more. Only activities out with the school curriculum are funded. The current application deadline for this round of funding is the 1st September 2010.

PARKS FOR PEOPLE

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has announced that the next closing date for applications to the Parks for People programme is the 31st August 2010. Launched originally as a joint initiative with the Big Lottery Fund full responsibility for the programme has now passed to the Heritage Lottery Fund Local Authorities as well as not for profit organisations that own public parks and gardens can apply for grants of between £250,000 and £5 million for the regeneration of parks and public gardens (including squares, walks and promenades). Applicants will need to raise at least 30 % of the project costs from their own sources and partnership funding, either as cash or non-cash contributions. The ‘Parks for People’ programme has a two-stage application process. If a Stage One Pass is awarded, applicants can submit a Stage 2 application. Recent awards include a £1.84 million grant to restore Castle Park in Fordsham, Cheshire back to its original historic landscape and to improve sports facilities, the play area, and cafe and kiosk facilities and a £3.5million grant to restore the historic landscaping and buildings, upgrading footpaths, entrances, furniture and signage of Brockwell Park which is located between Brixton, Norwood and Dulwich.

PEOPLE’S POSTCODE TRUST

The People’s Postcode Trust, a trust set up by the “People’s Postcode Lottery” in April 2009, has announced that English and Scottish applications are now being accepted for their next round of funding. Funding of between £500 and £10,000 (£2,000 if not a registered charity) is available to small organisations and community groups operating in the areas of Poverty Prevention; Advancement of Health; Community Development; Public Sports; Human Rights; and Environmental Protection. Projects supported can last for up to 3 months. Previous projects supported include Bishopton Village Nursery which received a grant of £825 to support children’s learning and Scottish Native Woods, an organisation that exists to rescue, restore and expand Scotland’s native woods- woodlands that are natural to Scottish landscape. The organisation received a grant of £9,958 to thin out trees, reinstate and repair paths and reinstall drainage systems. The closing date for applications is the 23rd April 2010.

NEW £50 MILLION LOTTERY FUND FOR SCOTLAND

The Big Lottery Fund (BIG) has announced a new £50 million funding programme for Scotland to help transform the life chances of young people leaving care and fundamentally improve the lives of older people with dementia and their carers. The Big Lottery Fund has begun work to develop the way in which these funds will be distributed. BIG seeks to work with a range of key stakeholders, including the Scottish Government, in developing this proposal over the next few months. This follows the announcement in December 2009 that the BIG Lottery Fund will have around £400 million in total to invest in Scotland in the five years from 2010. Plans for the remainder of this investment will be finalised in the coming months, and further announcements on this are planned. BIG plans to open its new range of strategic funding programmes in June 2010.

THE WOODWARD CHARITABLE TRUST

The Woodward Charitable Trust is inviting applications from UK registered charities working with or in the areas of; social and ethnic minority groups; prisoners and ex-offenders; homelessness; violence and abuse; arts outreach; disability; environment; addition. The fund offers grants of up to £5,000 through their small grants scheme and grants of over £5,000 through their large grants scheme. The fund also offers grants of up to £1,000 for summer play schemes for children between the ages of 5-16 to UK charities with a turnover of less than £100,000 a year. Priorities will be given to; small local playschemes that provide a wide-ranging programme of activities; schemes that involve a large number of children; catering for those from disadvantaged backgrounds or have a disability; that work with children from a range of backgrounds, abilities and race; where past users are encouraged to come back and help as volunteers. The next application deadline for small and large grants is the 24th May 2010, and April/May 2010 for the summer playscheme.

MEDIA’S DEVELOPMENT - SLATE FUNDING

The European Union has announced that its “Media Development - Slate Funding” programme is now open to applications. Media is the EU’s main support programme for the European Audio-visual sector. Under this call for proposals independent European production companies can apply for grants of ?10,000 to ?60,000 to support the development phase of media productions projects. . Projects that are eligible are; Fiction (one-off and series, minimum duration 50 minutes); Creative documentary (one-off and series, minimum duration 25 minutes); Animation (one-off or series, minimum duration 24 minutes). The application deadline is the 12 April 2010.

FUNDING TO TACKLE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN

The European Commission has launched a new call for proposals under the Daphne III Programme 2007 - 13. The overall aim of Daphne III is to contribute to the protection of children, young people and women against all forms of violence including sexual exploitation and trafficking in human beings. Under this call for proposals, funding is available in the form of action grants to support transnational projects that meet the objectives of the Daphne III programme. Projects require a minimum partnership of 2 organisations from different EU member states and must be of duration of either 12 or 24 months. Grants awarded under the call will range from ? 75,000 to ? 300,000 for 12-month projects and from ? 150,000 to ? 600,000 for 24-month projects, which may constitute a maximum of 80% of overall eligible project cost. Funding under the Daphne III Programme is available to non-profit private organisations and public authorities and institutions (local authorities at the competent level, university departments and research centres). The deadline for submission of applications is the 30th April 2010.

SCHOOL GRANTS SCHEME

UK schools and colleges catering for pupils in the age range 5-18 are able to apply for funding from the Science and Technology Facilities Council for small-scale projects or events linked to the teaching or promotion of physics. Projects linked to astronomy, space and particle physics are particularly encouraged. Grants of up to £500 may contribute to costs such as running a science week activity, organising a visit to or from a working physicist, supply cover, transport, marketing and publicity, and materials/resources. The closing date for applications is the 1st June 2010

ERACH & ROSHAN SADRI FOUNDATION GRANTS

Charities and organisations have the opportunity to apply for grants of between £2,000 and £100,000 through the Erach & Roshan Sadri Foundation. Applications from individuals may also be considered. The Foundation seeks to support educational and welfare projects, projects that relieve poverty by alleviating homelessness and assisting members of the Zoroastrian religious faith. Projects that the Foundation has funded in the UK in the past include a Saturday Education programme; funding for a Muslim school; and support for young carers in Wiltshire. NEW FUNDING ROUND FOR GENDER MAINSTREAMING PROJECTS

The European Commission has launched a new call for proposals under its PROGRESS Programme. PROGRESS is the EU’s employment and social solidarity programme, set up to provide financial support for the attainment of the European Union’s objectives in employment, social affairs and equal opportunities. Through this call for proposals grants of up to ?250,000 are available to support national actors to improve gender mainstreaming into national policies and programmes. Priority will be given to the national ministry in charge of the equality between women and men policy but if this ministry is not in a position to submit a proposal, it can be carried by another ministry. Only one proposal per EU country will be accepted. Measures which may be financed under this call for proposals include seminars/workshops, training sessions (including the training of instructors), and the design and distribution of tools (educational and methodological material, handbooks, impact assessment guides, reports, etc.). The deadline for applications is the 17th May 2010.

DRUG PREVENTION AND INFORMATION PROGRAMME

The European Commission has announced a new call for proposals under its Drug Prevention and Information Programme. Grants of ?75,000 and ?500,000 are available to support activities within the scope of the EU Drugs Strategy 2005-2012. The funding which is available to partnerships of at least 2 organisations from different EU Member States can be used to support transnational programmes, studies and research, etc to reduce drug use, dependence and drug related harms; and to contribute to the improvement of information on the effects of drug use. Funding is also available for the exchange of best practice, training, study visits, staff exchanges, seminars, meetings, conferences or a combination of these. The deadline for applications is the 28th April 2010.

MENTOR UK CHAMP AWARDS (England, Scotland and Wales)

Mentor UK, the drug and alcohol misuse prevention charity for children and young people, is calling on the public, professionals and young people to nominate projects for the Mentor UK CHAMP Awards . This is a biennial awards scheme aimed at recognising and rewarding projects in England, Scotland and Wales that can help prevent children and young people aged 14 or under from misusing alcohol - both now and in their future lives. Awards will be made in the following three categories: for work in schools; for work in the community; and for projects led by young people. The 2010 winners in each category will each receive £10,000 cash and a further £10,000 worth of consultancy support to help them improve, expand and share their activities. The final selection of winners will be made by panels of young people aged 14 and under. Previous winners have included the Greater Easterhouse Alcohol Awareness Project’s - “Young Booze Busters” Primary School Programme which delivers an interactive, alcohol awareness programme to all primary six pupils in the 40 primary schools in the East of Glasgow and the Time for Me project in the West Midlands which provides support for children and young people who are affected by substance misuse at home. The closing date for nominations is the 21st April 2010.

HILTON IN THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

Organisations that work with young people have the opportunity to apply for grants through the Hilton Foundation. Organisations such as charities and other not for profit organisations can apply for grants ranging from a few hundred pounds up to £30,000 per year for up to 2 years that meet one of the Foundation’s chosen areas of focus. These are disabled children; children in hospital; homelessness; and life-limited children in hospices. Previously supported projects by the Foundation have included Ratho Primary School which received a grant of £168.48 to provide ‘healthy living’ water bottles for all of the children at the school and Derby Toc-H Childrens Camp which received a grant of £3,623.27 for the provision of holidays and activities for underprivileged children. The next closing date for applications is the 5th May 2010.

COMMUNITY RENEWABLE ENERGY GRANTS

The Naturesave Trust, which was set up in 1995, to fund specific environmental and conservation projects throughout the UK and to encourage the greater adoption of sustainable development, especially within the Small and Medium Sized business community (SMEs) has announced that it now provides start up ’seed corn’ grants for community renewable energy projects. The Trust are keen to help communities, in particular, that do not have the initial start up capital to undertake all the preliminary work to get to the planning stage and most importantly for the community to retain as much control as possible over the operating income once the project has been successful. Recently funded projects by the Trust include Pilling St John’s Primary School which received funding towards the installation of a wind turbine at the school, providing energy and income to the school and Trees for Health which received funding from the Trust to set up green woodworking area to utilise local coppice wood in Devon.

FUNDING FOR CHILDREN’S SUMMER PLAYSCHEMES (UK)

The LankellyChase Foundation has announced that it is seeking applications from registered charities to support summer playschemes for children between the ages of 5 - 17 years. Preference is given to small local playschemes lasting 4 - 6 weeks, and groups planning special activities for youngsters who are disadvantaged. In 2009 the Foundation will be supporting specific activities for children and young people living in refuges for families escaping domestic violence or for young carers. This year the Foundation will be making approximately 120 grants of around £500, to organisations in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Preference will be given to applications from organisations affiliated to a relevant nationally recognised body and adhering to national standards of practice. The closing date for applications is the 14th May 2010.

PEOPLE’S MILLIONS RE-LAUNCED

The Big Lottery Fund has announced a new funding round under its People’s Millions Initiative. Through the People’s Million’s, BIG wants to fund projects that transform the local environment or provide opportunities or facilities to allow people to take part and enjoy their local area. BIG are particularly interested in supporting community-based projects that can show that they will increase community involvement or help people who are most in need. In 2010, a total of £3.8 million will be available to support up to 5 projects within each of the 18 ITV regions, plus 18 runners up. The maximum grant will be £50,000 plus VAT. Funding will be mainly for one of capital costs and could include improvements to land, for open spaces or allotments, other forms of landscaping, buying land or temporary buildings, construction work, improvements to access, fixtures and fittings and the purchase of equipment. Organisations that can enter the People’s Millions include voluntary or community groups, public bodies such as local authorities, schools, or statutory health bodyies and social enterprises. The closing date for applications is 12 noon on the 14th May 2010.
