From NORTH GLASGOW HEALTHY LIVING COMMUNITY:

Free Training Course For Action On Community Health Issues In Scotland: ‘Health Issues In The Community’:

Starting Date: Mid September 2008, Venue: North Glasgow (TBC). This training course could prove very useful for local staff or local group members that currently live within the North Community Health & Care Partnership boundaries. Health Issues in the Community is a successful national training initiative developed by NHS Health Scotland, the University of Edinburgh and CHEX (Community Health Exchange). This initiative is based around a community training course that aims to increase understanding of, and capacity to take action on, local health issues The assessment/certification is provided by the University of Edinburgh; and course development, tutor training, support and networking provided by CHEX. The course is delivered by tutors (a range of workers from health, local authority, community and voluntary sector) in local settings with community groups and individuals. It helps to equip local people for the real challenges that they face in developing community responses to health issues and becoming more active citizens. It should be of particular interest to agencies that have a remit for tackling health inequalities, promoting community development approaches to health and developing community participation around health. Health Issues in the Community can certainly provide a good starting point for local people or workers who want to tackle health inequalities at community level. From EQUALITY NETWORK:

Flush Away Transphobia:

Find out how you can support the new Scottish Transgender Alliance / Polygender Scotland awareness-raising initiative to let people pee in peace. “Most transgender people in Scotland have worried at some point about using a public toilet. Gendered toilets in public venues and workplaces are often used as an excuse for verbal and physical transphobic attacks on anyone who seems masculine in the Ladies or feminine in the Gents. Even something as minor as the length of someone’s hair can result in the humiliating and scary experience of strangers trying to throw them out of a public toilet! This is despite the fact that there is actually no law in Scotland about which toilet people should use” Read on at www.scottishtrans.org/news
