From RAPE CRISIS CENTRE GLASGOW:

Rape Crisis Centre Online Survey On Intimate Partner Sexual Violence:

It’s been 20 years since rape in marriage became a crime in Scotland (it did not become a criminal offence until 1991 in England and Wales) but 20 years on, intimate partner sexual violence remains a very hidden and unspoken of aspect of domestic abuse. Glasgow Rape Crisis Centre is undertaking an online survey on intimate partner sexual violence, asking women to look at the questionnaire and complete it as far as they can and to cascade it down to others within their organizations and networks in the hope that as many women as possible across the UK will participate. More info at http://enf.org.uk/blog/?p=760

From GLASGOW WOMEN’S LIBRARY:

‘Women On The Shelf’:

What have women ever done for Scotland? Nothing! Or at least that’s the conclusion that we might draw if we look around our cities and towns. Our great men are celebrated and commemorated everywhere - in street names, buildings, civic squares and statues. So where are Scotland’s great women? Glasgow Women’s Library is aiming to redress this balance through its new ‘Women on the Shelf’ fundraising initiative. Read on at http://digbig.com/4yhdm

From BRITISH RED CROSS:

Addressing Vulnerability With Skin Camouflage:

We currently offer a skin camouflage service in the dermatology clinic at Glasgow Royal Infirmary … The clinic is open to people of all ages and with a range of conditions including vitiligo, rosacea, acne, scarring, burns and birth marks. The current route to service begins with a referral from GPs and dermatology consultants. …A recent consultation revealed the medical route to services at the Royal Infirmary means we struggle to reach the most vulnerable people in our society who we aim to target at out pilot clinics, which include: People who self harm; Users of intravenous drugs; Victims of Violent Attack; Victims of domestic abuse. The pilot clinic will target theses groups and will be part of a care package provided by partner organisations addressing the psychological issues associated with it. The service objectives are: To make a difference to the lives of individuals with disfiguring scars, brought about by self harm, domestic abuse, violent attack or the use of intravenous drugs; To teach individuals to apply skin camouflage creams effectively to disguise disfiguring scarring; To promote social inclusion by increasing the confidence of individuals with disfiguring scarring; To reach individuals who may not access our service elsewhere, and for whom the established medical route to service is a barrier to seeking treatment; To provide information on support services, first aid and alternative coping methods for service users; To promote an effective volunteer run service through initial and ongoing training and support. The pilot clinic will work with partner organisations to target these groups in various ways, either by hosting a mobile clinic, points of referral or points of reference. The project is currently under way and I am trying to make links with potential partner organisations. For more info contact Helen Irvine, Skin Camouflage Project Officer Tel 0141 891 4000 hirvine@redcross.org.uk

From CAPABILITY SCOTLAND:

Equipment & Adaptations Consultation Event:

11th March, 10.30am - 3pm, Edinburgh Marriott Hotel, 111 Glasgow Rd, Edinburgh EH12 8NF. Do you represent people who need special equipment or adaptations so that they can stay at home? Do you provide health, education or social care services to people who use equipment or adaptations? Equipment and adaptations are proving vital in enabling people to live well and comfortably in their own homes. Following the recommendations of Adapting to the Future, Audit Scotland’s report into the management of community equipment and adaptations, new guidance has been developed by the Scottish Government to help local health and social care partnerships create a more consistent approach to providing equipment and adaptations across Scotland. We are keen to hear the views of people who use equipment and adaptations, providers of health and social care services and other stakeholders about this new guidance and so are holding a consultation event in Edinburgh. This free event is open to anyone who is interested in making the system work – those who work with equipment and adaptations, the people who need them and carers and supporters of disabled people. To book a place please contact Amy Phillips, Partnership Improvement and Outcomes Division, 3-ER, St Andrew’s House, Edinburgh EH1 3DG. Tel: 0131 244 4041 or email amy.phillips@scotland.gsi.gov.uk

From EQUALITY NETWORK:

Out & Safe:

Saturday 28th February, 10am-3.45pm, Elgin. Out & Safe, now in its second year, promotes wellbeing and safety in our communities and offers support in building new relationships between the police and LGBT people. …The Out & Safe event will outline what support is available for LGBT people and what the police do to combat hate crime, in particular homophobic/transphobic hate crime. This event will give the LGBT communities an opportunity to voice fears or concerns about crime, personal safety and the police. Research shows many LGBT people do not report homophobic and transphobic crime to the police. We feel that building sustainable and meaningful relationships between the police and LGBT communities is the most important way of ensuring that crimes are reported. Out & Safe is one step along that road. The event includes workshops on community policing and domestic abuse as well as information and advice. For further information or to register, contact Scott Cuthbertson scott@equality-network.org Refreshments and lunch provided.
