WSREC is offering free training on equality and diversity for the third sector organisation working in the area of the West of Scotland. The course covers six equality strands (age, disability, gender, race, religion and sexual orientation). This training is provided as a part of the Connecting to Communities (C2C) project, which aims to increase awareness of the community planning and equality among the minority ethnic groups in the West of Scotland. I am looking for individuals, artists, activists and cultural producers who are part of the BAME LGBTI community from across Scotland.  This new body of work will consists a series of large - scale black and white head and shoulder shots. The work forms part of my artist in residence at the Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow.  At the moment, I am unable to pay a fee, however travel expenses will be covered and a selection of prints from the shoot will be given for your time. An exhibition of the images will be showcased at GOMA in November 2009. Archway Glasgow is Scotland’s first Sexual Assault Referral Centre.  It provides forensic and medical assistance, as well as support and counselling for anyone who has recently been raped or sexually assaulted. 23rd September. Are you a minority ethnic disabled person? Or Do you have A Long Term Health Condition?  BEMIS in partnership with Capability Scotland are holding a consultation event on behalf of the Justice Disability Steering Group to enable minority ethnic disabled people and/or people with a long term condition to tell the justice sector about issues in accessing justice. The aim is to identify barriers the minority ethnic Disabled Community may be facing in accessing services across the Justice System. This event will help to draw on the individuals skills and experiences to improve the Scottish Justice Sector for all. You don’t have to have the experience of accessing justice to be involved - just an interest in improving access to justice for minority ethnic disabled people. The Commission has today launched a consultation on how private and voluntary sector employers* with at least 250 staff can measure and report on their gender pay gap.  Women working full-time currently earn 17.1 per cent less per hour on average than men, with the gap failing to improve in the past three years. Equality And Diversity Research Network Meeting 3rd July 2009

A substantive part of the Meeting on the 3rd of July focused on the new Equality Bill and the Policy Proposals for specific duties, as any responses to it have to be submitted by the 30th of September 2009.  There was an intense debate by the members who attended the meeting on the specific and general duties outlined by the Policy proposal  and areas that are being omitted, overlooked, dropped or excluded such as the equalities provisions not being applicable to those under 18.  Chapters four and five were highlighted as being of particular interest.

A new report (Shall we stay or Shall we Go: Re-migration trends among Britain’s immigrants) by ippr published today shows that more and more immigrants to the United Kingdom are staying for a short time and then leaving. The outflow in the last couple of years is close to 400,000.
